Question regarding "print server"
Hello Everyone, Printer devices are often equipped with a print server for connecting the device to the network. For my understanding, this print servers consist basically out of network interface, some management functionality, memory for buffering print jobs and some kind of server functionality – correct me If I’m wrong. In order to print directly to the printer via network (not via a Windows Printer Share) there are basically two options available . On Windows 7 … 1. Choose “Add a local printer” -> “Create new Port” and choose TCP/IP port and enter IP address of the printer-> choose printer driver to install 2. Choose “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer” -> the device appears on the list -> choose the device -> printer gets automatically installed I would like to understand more about the option 2. It seems that the “kind of server functionality” that is part of the print server device is publishing and sharing the printer on the network somehow. Has anyone ever used this in a larger environment and can share some information (pros and cons) he made with this ? Thank you for your help, Andreas

Unlike manually finding the shared printers, this feature automatically detects all shared printers in your network. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
